Patrons Day

Every year, a day is set aside to award and confer Honors to those Scouts, Scouters, Commissioners and non warranted persons for great achievement in Scouting.

The decorations and awards are given by the Kenya Scouts Association on recommendations by the Honors and Awards Sub – committee with the approval of the National Executive Committee. The awards sub – committee discusses the awards on applications, recommendations or both from Scouters, Scouts or other non warranted volunteers from the Local Associations.

The Awards are either presented by the Scouters, Members of the Executive Eommittee, Chief Commissioner, Chief Scout or Patron depending on the weight of the award. However all the awards given on the Patron’s day are presided over by the Association’s Patron, His Excellency the President Hon. Mwai Kibaki CGH, MP.

The following awards and honors are presented to the awardees on this day;

I. Lion Badge (Simba Badge)
This is the highest badge for the Mwamba (Senior Scouts) in their progressive scheme.
II. Wood Badge – 2 Beads
This is awarded to any person who has satisfactorily completed the requirements of unit leader training.
III. Assistant Leader trainer – 3 Beads
This is granted to those that who have accomplished the trainers requirements for leader trainers
IV. Thanks Awards
Is primarily intended for presentation to individuals or firms that have supported or tremendous contributions to the scouting movement.
V. Long service Awards Honours
Is given to members of the movement who have given 10 years of faithful and efficient service in one or more ranks as a scouter.
VI. Award for Meritorious Conduct
Is given to those who have displayed good qualities of courage, endurance, initiative or devotion to duty.

The following awards may be granted according to the circumstances of the case
a. Medal of Merit
b. Bar to the Medal of merit

VII. Award for good service – is given for especially good work for the movement made by Scouters or persons holding non – executive or honorary rank.
VIII. Silver Lion – is an award for services of the most exceptional character and unrestricted gift of the Chief Scout. It’s only granted at the discretion of the Chief Scout.
IX. Awards for Gallantry – is awarded to Scouts, Scouters and any persons holding non- warranted and honorary ranks and also to groups in cases of joint acts of conspicuous gallantry above and beyond the call of duty where the recipient displays Special heroism or extra- ordinary.

The following awards are granted:
1. Bronze Cross; Red Ribbon
2. Silver Cross; Blue Ribbon
3. Gilt Cross; Blue and Red vertical ribbon
4. Bar: Bars to the above crosses
